Thurcroft Welfare Band are very proud of their training band who took first place in the Ireland Colliery Band Battle of the Bands contest on 17th June 2012
under the baton of their musical director Ken Vernon. The band continue to go from strength to strength building up the trophy cabinet following their win at the Worksop Music and Drama
Festival earlier in the year.
The varied programme included:
“100 not out”, a march written especially for the band by Darrol Barry,
“Annie’s Song”, the solo played beautifully by principal cornet Louise Piper,
“Drunken Sailor”
“Jurassic Park”
“Bandalero Calipso Collapso”, a great favourite with the younger members of the band.
The band played really well and the adjudicator commented that the band had the best choice of programme. He said the general tuning of the band was good and had the best range of
dynamics, even though they were the smallest band in the group.
MD Ken Vernon was really pleased with the band’s performance and felt that the quality of playing by the band members, both young and old, was very
good.
