Durham Miners' Gala July 2013

Thurcroft Welfare Band attended the Duham Miners' Gala to accompany the Thornley Lodge Banner to the Big Meeting in Durham on Saturday 13 July 2013.

The Band left Thurcoft at 5:30am and started the day by marching through Thornley at 8am accompanied by the Thornley Lodge Banner and a Banner made by the Thornley Primary School

The parade was thoroughly enjoyed by Thornley villagers and after leaving with the Banners and the Banner Party from the village, the Band proceeded to Durham itself.

The Band played and marched down New Elvet from the Durham Law School to join the main body of the gala before performing for the dignatories at the County Hotel. The Band played Jamie's Patrol and received a rousing ovation before proceeding up old Elvet to the Racecourse sports ground.

After the speeches the Band returned down Old Elvet to the County Hotel again to play Madness' Baggy Trousers to the delight of the crowd.
