Training Band Awards 2012

Thurcroft Welfare Training Band held their annual award ceremony at the weekend to celebrate the achievements of the band and individual members this year. The Band has had another very successful year under the expert baton of Ken Vernon, winning prizes at the Worksop Music and Drama Festival and the Ireland Colliery Battle of the Bands. The Band has also performed regularly in the local area, supporting community events.

Councillor John Swift, a great supporter of both Thurcroft bands, came along to present the awards.

Individual awards went to:

Player of the Year – Louise

Most Improved Players – Sophia  and Lucy

Best Newcomer – Ben

Best Section – Euphoniums, Baritones and Trombones

Ken Vernon, Musical Director said, " We are very proud of our training band. The band is going from strength to strength. It is great that Thurcroft has a training band that people of any age with an interest in making music can join. Everyone works hard and enjoys rehearsals and the events the band takes part in. It is also a great asset to the community and of course means that players can move up into the senior band, securing the future of Thurcroft Welfare Band as a whole."

The Band are very grateful to have received funding recently from The Community Development Foundation. This was used to purchase new polo shirts to use for informal uniform.

Thurcroft Welfare Training Band, meet in the band room each Thursday evening 6pm - 7:15pm. The group is open to anyone of any age with a desire to make music.  Expert tuition is available to all players and instruments are provided free on loan, thanks to community funding over the last few years.
