Durham Miners' Gala July 2015

On Saturday 11 July 2015 the Thurcroft Welfare Brassband once again proudly accompanied the Thornley Lodge banner to the 2015 Durham Miners' Gala - the Big Meeting. The band left Thurcroft at 5:30am and started marching though the village of Thornley with the old Lodge Banner at 8am. The villagers of all ages enthusiastically greeted the Band as they marched.. The band paused at the old pit where where the pit wheel now stands and played 'Gresford' - the miners' hymn.


After heading to Durham the band joined countless other bands and an estimimated 150,000 people to march through the city, past the County Hotel to play for the dignitaries and then on to the Racecourse.
