Thurcroft Welfare Band - 100 Not Out!

Our first CD was produced in 2010 after the centenary celebrations of Thurcroft Pit.

Throughout 2009 Thurcroft villagers attended a number of events to mark the centenary of the mining heritage of the village, a celebration of the 100 years that had passed since the sinking of the first shaft at Thurcroft Colliery in 1909. Following the Centenary Concert at the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall, the band submitted an application to The Arts Council for funding to commission two Centenary pieces:-

  • Thurcroft Centenary March - dedicated to the memory of Thurcroft Colliery and all who worked there
  •  100 Not Out! - dedicated to the future prosperity of Thurcroft and Thurcroft Welfare Band

That application was successful, and the CD – which was recorded at the Church of St Simon & St Jude, Thurcroft, during March 2010 - is the Band's contribution to those centenary celebrations.

We are extremely grateful to The Arts Council for the funding, and also to the internationally renowned brass band composer and arranger Darrol Barry for agreeing to write the two pieces.
